Swimmers are asked to nominate their weekly sessions at the start of the squad. The Tuesday session also has a casual attendance option if it is not selected as one of your standard weekly training sessions. All other sessions must be pre-nominated and can only be attended by swimmers in the Rotto Squad.
Dates
The program commences Monday 13 October 2025 and runs through to Thursday 19 February 2026, with a Christmas break from Sunday 21 December – Sunday 4 January inclusive. Please refer to the Training Calendar for a comprehensive training session listing. Those swimmers planning on competing in the 2026 Port to Pub will have the option to extend their training sessions for an additional 3 week period (additional fees will apply).
Location
All sessions will be held at Perth's leading aquatic facility, Perth HPC (formerly HBF Stadium), Stephenson Ave, Mt Claremont. Sessions are scheduled to be held in both the indoor and outdoor pools as follows:
Mondays - Indoor pool
Tuesdays – Outdoor 8 lane pool
Thursdays - Outdoor 8 lane pool
Saturdays - Outdoor 10 lane pool
Please note that these allocations may change during the season.
Program
The training program will be divided into 4 x 4-5 week phases with each phase building towards race preparedness on Saturday 21 February. The coaches will be tailoring each session to accommodate all standards and whilst swimmers will feel that they are pushing themselves to improve they will not be pushed beyond their physical and mental capabilities. We care about the health of our swimmers!!
Ocean / River Swims
During January, our Saturday sessions will be in the ocean with guidance on dealing with swell, currents, working with your paddler, acclimatising and generally getting comfortable being in the open water.
Key events such as the 10km trial events for solos will be factored into the training program and advice given on which open water events to include in your schedule for maximum benefit. It is expected that ALL members of the squad participate in the Christmas 10K event on Saturday 20 December as there will be no squad training this day.
All swimmers are encouraged to have at least one ocean or river swim per week for at least 6-8 weeks prior to the event with solo swimmers encouraged to include open water training throughout the program. We will schedule guided river and/or ocean swims throughout the program with an opportunity to practice race nutrition and cold-water acclimatisation. Dates for these events will be provided at the start of the squad.
Places are strictly limited so get your enrolment in NOW to avoid disappointment.
